Thomas HUMPHREYVILLE was born around 1779 at York Factory or Severn House, son of an Indian woman & Edward UMFREVILLE (b-c1755), an HBC accountant who quit the Company in 1783, then from 1784 to 1787 served the North West Company (NWC) on the North Saskatchewan River, including its most westerly post near Frenchman’s Butte, SK. In 1788 his father returned to England, published a book in 1790 and thereafter nothing is known of him.

Daughter Catherine “Kitty” was born around 1805 in Oregon Territory to Tom and an Indian woman named Ann, who apparently died soon after.
Forsythe: Kitty was the daughter of a Cree Indian woman named Ann and Thomas HUMPHERVILLE,
a British officer stationed at Fort York. Kitty's father was apparently reassigned when she was a child, and though the family never saw him again, he continued to send money to Ann and his children for many years. Without an English speaker in the home, Kitty grew up speaking her native language and French.

Around 1816 Tom married Hannah “Annie” TURNER, daughter of Emma and Joseph TURNER (1783-1865).

In 1817 daughter Mary was born at Fort Pelly.

In 1820 son John was born at The Pas.

By 1822 they had four children.

Hannah apparently re-married on Aug 24, 1826 Moose Factory to Benjamin MOWAT.

Around 1835 daughter Mary (Polly) became the wife of John BALLENDINE (1800-1879), son of a Cree woman and an Unknown BALLENDINE from the Orkneys.

In 1838 daughter Sarah married Joseph TURNER (b-1816), son of Emma & Joseph TURNER SR (1783-1865), both half-breeds

In 1844 son John married Mary BRASS at The Pas, daughter of Suzanne COMTOIS & Peter BRASS (b-c1794).

Around 1849 daughter Mary (Polly) married a second time to Joseph Archibald McLENNAN (b-1814) of uncertain origins.
